Kelli Goss pulls off a kind-hearted, high-end prostitute who defies any preconceived notions the audience may hold about her. The cancellations sparked rumors that the streaming service is cancelling all current and future scripted original series, but denies the reports. The sitcom exudes an offbeat sensibility while remaining painstakingly relatable. They're both quirky yet relatable, both totally extra yet totally realistic. In other words, watching one episode at a time. Which is why it is so exciting for me that now we get to see shows completely done through a female lens, like or Tina Fey's Great News.
I lost count, but I want to say I've seen the first season all the way through at least five times in the two months since its release. Who also just happen to have vaginas. Kat and June are not the kind of friends that met and thought right away, 'Oh my god, we speak the same language, we get each other. She makes an unequivocal choice with June and it absolutely works. There's Emily Hinkler and Elizabeth Hinkler as Kat's rowdy best friends, two lovably strange thespian twins whose every spoken sentence is weirder than the last and successfully implies an unspoken personal history that only twins would have and that the audience only gets beautifully interesting glimpses of. Kat is assertive and June is anxious. The birth of an extremely strange yet undeniably hilarious friendship is explored in the new comedy. There are no archetypes or filler roles. From minute one you know these characters. .
One of the benefits of internal narration is that it helps with exposition. The show is about how women think. In the regular supporting roles, there's Sasheer Zamata as an airy yet semi-successful manager of a pharmaceutical company whose sheer averageness makes her a hilarious role model for June. Future seasons could build upon any of the existing characters, and I would be glad to get to know them better. It's the writing that makes even the strangest characters feel real and believable. Kat and June are equally fun to follow, in their own scenes and in their shared ones. I wanted to showcase that kind of relationship, when people are super different from each other, and sort of fall into friendship anyway.
I read so many scripts from applicants while staffing writers for my show and so many were still writing through the male gaze, even women. Those relationships that feel familial in a good and bad way. A sci-fi drama, Origin centers on a group of strangers who are left stranded on a spacecraft. The script carries a confidence that is reflected in the actors' performances. Conflict breeds both story and comedy, and Kat and June are about as different as can be. Mackenzie Yeager was doing theater and writing plays in Chicago when she realized that she wanted to move back to Los Angeles and try her hand at acting and writing for television. The whole show is extremely well cast, but Dox is a future superstar.

In any other scenario, these two would not be friends. The set design is great; lots of bright colors that keep the show visually stimulating and lots of details that work well with the character's personalities. Look no further than Overthinking with Kat and June, a new comedy series from YouTube Premium that begins streaming on Wednesday. Kat's room says everything you need to know about her, from the light up pizza sign to the chill swing, and June's boring office work environment is a great contrast to her spastic thoughts and wacky outfits.
Watching how differently they react to their attractive landlord Dave Justin Kirk highlights the dissimilarities between the pair. But there is a relationship that grows between them. What is Kat's sister like? Overthinking with Kat and June streams Wednesday on YouTube Premium. It's a shame how under the radar this series has flown, at least in my circles. Tenea Intriago is just as lovely in her delivery and her physical embodiment of Kat. Just like I feel male characters get to do all the time. If you happen to stumble upon it, know that it's more than worth your time.
Our Take: Two things immediately stand out while watching Overthinking with Kat and June: The writing and the performances from Intriago and Dox. I wanted to showcase those weird, complicated female friendships that I have had in my life, that come up kind of unexpectedly. The effect is stunning, in that I find myself asking questions and wanting to know more about every person who is seen or even mentioned. The show has an infinite potential of options to explore in future seasons, and I sincerely hope that it does get future seasons. How did Kat meet Molly and Tessa? Kat's wardrobe is also reflective of her personality and the twins receive some aptly strange and androgynous fashion choices that are, in some episodes, scene-making.
