Social Graph Help

Operating the Social Graph

Social Graph is the Visual Representation of a user’s or community’s network. The node in the center represents the User or Community whose network is displayed. There are 3 types of entities (nodes) in this network: Users, Communities and Posts (blogs and forums). Each node has a label that can be clicked to follow the link to user’s or community’s home page or a specific post.

For the Social Graph of a user you can see the buddies, latest authored blogs and forum posts and communities the user has joined.

For the Social Graph of a community you can see other members and latest blogs and forum posts in that community.

When operating the Social Graph you can use the control buttons above the graph, Filters or the right mouse click to expand or explore any node in the graph.

In addition clicking on the node itself causes it to turn around for easier display of a label. Clicking on the label will follow the link.

  • For users the link points to his/her home page.
  • For community the link points to community’s home page.
  • Each post points to the page that has the corresponding blog or forum post.

The graph links behave just as regular Web links, when clicked, you will get redirected to the corresponding page.

The icon in the lower left corner toggles all the connections for the center node of the graph.

Operating the Control Buttons

  • Clicking on the «Back» link will display the previous state of the graph.
  • Clicking on the «Reload Graph» will reload the shown graph.
  • Clicking on the «Explore last expanded node» will work only if any node was expanded using the Right Mouse Click. If clicked the shown graph will get replaced with the Social Relationship Graph of the node that was last expanded using the Right Mouse Click.

Operating the Filters

There are 3 filters you can use to display or remove certain type of nodes.

  • Clicking on the «Show Users» filter will either show or filter out the users in the current Social Graph.
  • Clicking on the «Show Communities» filter will either show or filter out the communities in the current Social Graph.
  • Clicking on the «Show Posts» filter will either show or filter out the Blogs and Forum posts in the current Social Graph.

Operating the Right Mouse Click

  • When a node is «expanded» the Social Relationship Graph of the node is added to the existing graph.
  • When a node is «explored» the Social Relationship Graph of the node replaces the existing graph.
  • When choosing «Visit page» you will be forwarded to the page that is represented by this node.

When logged in, right mouse click on the user and community nodes ads menu items in the right click menu.

  • Right mouse click on the user node allows you to send a message to another user, invite that user to become a buddy or start a chat.
  • Right mouse click on the community node allows you to join that community if you are not a member or join the community chat if you are.
