what helps, what doesn't

Any TMJ sufferers out there who can recommend pain killers? Advil was recommended to me but I'm finding plain old aspirin is better. If you don't know what TMJ is, it's TransMandibular Joint Syndrome, which sometimes reads like a migraine, sometimes like needing root canal, triggered by anything -- heat, cold, or chewing. Tough way to go on a diet, huh.
